چکیده

The performance of a two-sensor based, frequency-domain minimum-variance beamforming algorithm (FMV) to extract a signal in the presence of multiple interferers was evaluated. Speech reception thresholds (SRT) and speech intelligibility measures were obtained from listeners with normal hearing or with mild-to-moderate sensorineural hearing loss. Word and sentence length stimuli were processed through the FMV algorithm, directional microphones alone, or with a simple delayand-sum beamformer. Listener’s ratings of speech intelligibility, percent of words repeated correctly, and threshold for words and sentences in the presence of four competing signals showed the FMV to provide significant performance benefits across different listening environments. © 2004 Acoustical Society of America PACS numbers: 43.60.Fg, 43.66.Ts [J.C.] Date Received: June 18, 2003 Date Accepted: March 25, 2004

A Multi-Microphone Speech Enhancement Algorithm Tested Using Acoustic Vector Sensors

In this paper, we present a speech enhancement algorithm for multi-microphone systems that enhances a target signal in noisy multi-talker situations. We apply the general multichannel Wiener filtering framework, for which we have developed a new technique to directly estimate the auto-correlation of the target signal assuming its direction is known. The advantage of our approach compared to tra...

A Fast-Converging Adaptive Frequency-Domain MVDR Beamformer for Speech Enhancement

In this paper, we present a fast-converging adaptive frequency-domain minimum-variance-distortionlessresponse (MVDR) beamformer (FMV) for speech enhancement. The well-known FMV solution is optimum in the microphone array processing. However, the direct computation of the optimum FMV solution is often undesirable due to the the inversion of the spatio-spectral correlation matrix which is often u...

Reliability of Interaural Time Difference-Based Localization Training in Elderly Individuals with Speech-in-Noise Perception Disorder

Background: Previous studies have shown that interaural-time-difference (ITD) training can improve localization ability. Surprisingly little is, however, known about localization training vis-à-vis speech perception in noise based on interaural time difference in the envelope (ITD ENV). We sought to investigate the reliability of an ITD ENV-based training program in speech-in-noise perception a...

Envelope-based inter-aural time difference localization training to improve speech-in-noise perception in the elderly

Background: Many elderly individuals complain of difficulty in understanding speech in noise despite having normal hearing thresholds. According to previous studies, auditory training leads to improvement in speech-in-noise perception, but these studies did not consider the etiology, so their results cannot be generalized. The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of envelope-b...

Effect of Vowel Auditory Training on the Speech-In-Noise Perception among Older Adults with Normal Hearing

Introduction: Aging reduces the ability to understand speech in noise. Hearing rehabilitation is one of the ways to help older people communicate effectively. This study aimed to investigate the effect of vowel auditory training on the improvement of speech-in-noise (SIN) perception among elderly listeners.   Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 36 elderly ...
